McMaster University's goal is to create a brighter world - to advance human and societal health and well-being and serve local and global communities through scholarship and learning. A commitment to world-class research, teaching and collaboration has elevated McMaster to 69th place in the influential Times Higher Education World University Rankings for 2021. The university ranked 17th in the world in the 2020 Impact Rankings, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and in 2018 was awarded the Global Teaching Award by Advance HE.
McMaster's medical school and health sciences programs are world-renowned, and every one of the six faculties and professional schools is driven by a commitment to interdisciplinarity and ground-breaking approaches to teaching and research. McMaster students have the opportunity to collaborate within a wide range of programs organized across the Faculties of Humanities, Social Sciences, Business, Engineering, Science, and Health Sciences, and to engage with the community and the world at large to customize their education.
The newly-opened Peter George Centre for Living and Learning supports a transformative student experience, alongside 45,000 square feet of new research and classroom space in the Arthur Bourns Building. The university's campus is also home to 13 residence buildings, four libraries, a planetarium, a concert hall and black box theatre, and the McMaster Museum of Art.
Founded in 1887, McMaster's main campus is located in the city of Hamilton at the western tip of Lake Ontario. The 300-acre main campus is nestled between the Niagara Escarpment and the picturesque nature area of Cootes Paradise.
